CCM Tacks XF Pro Skate Review
More Power, More Comfort and a Better Fit
The CCM Tacks Line, including the XF Pro, is built for the north-to-south power skater who dominates the game with top-end speed and explosiveness. This year is no different—the XF Pro is all about maximizing energy return in your stride so you can leave the competition in the dust. Let's dive into the details to see what makes this year's flagship Tacks skate a standout choice.
The new FORS composite boot material offers superior energy return and durability while being lighter. The fit is deeper with straighter top eyelets for enhanced comfort and stability. Game-Ready Fit 3.0 and TotalDri Pro 3D Mesh liner provide exceptional out-of-the-box fit, improved by heat molding, with added adjustments for a secure fit. The Flex Tendon 3.0 excels in range of motion, durability, and protection, enhancing stride extension without compromising Achilles safety.
The XS tongue system didn't make it into this year's XF Pro Line, which is unfortunate since aftermarket replacement options were fantastic. The new tongue is excellent, but the lack of replaceability is a drawback. For Tacks AS-V Pro players, the deeper instep volume and increased heel lock will require a period of adjustment.
Breakdown
FORS Composite Boot: 10
The FORS composite boot is one of the biggest material changes we've seen in CCM skates in a long time, offering a significant and noticeable upgrade in weight reduction and the "pop" feeling during strides. It molds around the foot for an even better wrap, enhancing overall fit and performance.
TotalDri Pro 3D Mesh Liner: 9
Comfort is king, especially with elite-level skates and their stiff boot constructions. The new Responsive Foam with TotalDri Pro Liner creates an insanely comfortable fit right out of the box. Game-Ready Fit 3.0 technology, a high-pressure, high-temperature pre-heat molding process done at the factory, ensures a nearly broken-in feel before players even bake the skates.
Flex Tendon 3.0: 10
CCM is never satisfied, and their dedication to continuous improvement is evident year after year. This year's Flex Tendon 3.0 is a testament to that, arguably the best flex tendon guard on the market today. With more forward tilt for better Achilles coverage, the same level of mobility, and increased overall durability, what more could you ask for?
TriTech 7mm Felt Tongue: 8
Our only critique of the XF Pro skate this year is the lack of replaceable tongues, unlike in previous years. While the tongue remains incredibly comfortable and protective, allowing excellent forward flex, we miss the replaceability of the XS tongue system.
Step BlackSteel: 10
What's not to love about one of the best runners in the game today? With its sleek aesthetics perfectly complementing this year's black-focused graphics package, the DLC coating ensures top-tier edge retention and bite, while the highly polished finish improves glide by reducing drag on the ice. Step Steel's construction consistency, paired with the added height, offers excellent sharpening life and profiling options.
