How to Size an Ice Hockey Pant

Measure the circumference of your waist just above the hips. Correspond this measurement to the sizing chart and cross-reference your height. You may overlap between hockey pant sizes, which in this case comes down to personal preference. Many pants feature a length extension system, which allows tall, skinny players better fitting options.

Put on your selected ice hockey pants along with your shin guards in order to check for a proper fit.

The waist should be able to securely fasten without being too tight or too loose. When standing, the pants should overlap the thigh protection of the shin guards without overlapping the kneecap.

If they are too big, the pants won’t sit securely on the waist and may twist or move around during gameplay, restricting your range of motion. They are also too big if the pants overlap with the kneecap of the shin guards, which will also restrict the range of motion.

If the pants are too tight around the waist and don’t overlap the thigh protection of the shin guards they are too small. They won’t offer sufficient coverage in protection and restrict mobility.
