Best Cross-Training Skates of 2019
IW staff chose the best cross-training skates of 2019 based on speed, comfort and durability.
Powerslide Swell 110
Speed: 8/10
The 3x110mm setup definitely has some speed available but the short frame and three wheel setup will make you work for it a little harder than a traditional 110mm setup.
Comfort: 8/10
While this may look like a soft boot, the Swell boots are actually on the stiff side. There is some give at the top of the boot but expect a low toe box and snug fit. Very comfortable for most people but not accommodating for wide feet or high arches. Trinity mounting and 3 wheel frame makes for a comfortable, natural stride.
Durability: 9/10
Since it's not a true soft boot, the material is also durable. With added scuff protectors at the toe, this is one of the more durable skates you can get without jumping into a molded plastic shell.
With a whole arsenal of Swell models, it was hard to choose just one. This model won out due to its neutral color option and moderate wheel size but you can check out the whole line by clicking here.

K2 VO2 S 90 Pro Skates
Speed: 7/10
At a 90mm wheel size, you are going to be working for speed with this skate. The wheels are large enough to keep you from feeling like you are in quicksand but small enough to keep your heart rate pumping.
Comfort: 10/10
K2's soft boot it unmatched for all-around comfort, pair that with the Vortech Ventilation system and you get a dry, comfortable fit that is unrivaled. The unique one-sided frame not only looks cool but also helps reduce the vibrating reverb between the wheels and frame, making for a smoother ride.
Durability: 7/10
The Soft Boot may be super comfy, but it isn't the most durable option out there. Early reports on the frame have come back positive but extra parts may cause complications down the line.

Rollerblade Maxxum Edge 3WD
Speed: 10/10
125mm wheels make these babies FAST. The molded plastic shell offers great power transfer and the high quality wheels are ready to keep up.
Comfort: 8/10
This is one of the most comfortable hard shell boots we've seen. With a super breathable liner and ample venting in the boot, it is able to minimize heat issues. The high quality, pre-formed liner is padded enough to avoid hot spots. Overall the boot is comfortable and supportive.
Durability: 10/10
The hard outer shell is about as rugged as you can get for a Cross-Trainer. Some durability features like side bumpers were omitted to cut down on weight, making it durable but useable for the intended long distance use. The replaceable liner also means you can keep this skating feeling new for a very long time.
